U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice insisted at a United Nations Security Council meeting yeserday that Hezbollah is part of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad’s “killing machine” and must be countered firmly by the international community. The ambassador’s stance echoes that of the Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Ron Prosor, who in the same meeting outlined how Iran provides its Lebanese proxy with “funds, training and advanced weapons.” A recent report by the U.S. State Department detailed the extensive cooperation between Iran, Hezbollah, and Syria in attacks on Syrian civilians, specifically citing the May 2012 Houla massacre in which Iranian trained operatives murdered more than 100 people, including dozens of children.
