Iran and the P5+1 have yet to agree on a date for the resumption of talks surrounding Iran’s atomic program, and Iranian outlets are now conveying statements by a top official in Tehran declaring that negotiations may be suspended altogether. Deputy Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mansour Haqiqat Pour also indicated that Iran would refuse to negotiate for a period of two to three years if the West continued to pressure the country as it goes to elections. Talks earlier this month between the UN’s nuclear watchdog and Tehran, designed to secure IAEA access to a military facility in which Iran is widely suspected of having conducted work related to the detonation of nuclear warheads, ended without progress.
