Fears that the Palestinian Authority will use its upgraded status in the United Nations to wage diplomatic warfare against Israel were heightened today by reports that the PA may sue Israel in the International Criminal Court over settlement construction. The news is in line with the pronouncements of Palestinian officials before the vote, to the effect that they intended to do exactly that, but may undermine the credibility of American foreign policy analysts who supported the upgrade but speculated that the Palestinians would not pursue legal claims against Israel, in part because those claims would risk politicizing and undermining the credibility of the ICC.
