The United Nations and its associated agencies purchased $91.8 million worth of goods and services from Israel in 2015, twice as much as they spent on Israeli products just two years earlier, The Jerusalem Post reported on Friday.

The UN spent just $45 million on Israeli products in 2013, a figure that increased to $69.8 million in 2014. Currently, Israel ranks 40th out of 193 member states in terms of UN procurement.

“Even the UN understands that Israel is the ‘Startup nation’ and that Israeli goods and services are of the highest quality in the world,” said Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the UN. “We will continue to promote the Israeli economy and assist and encourage our companies to work with the UN procurement offices,” he added.

The UN spends over $15 billion overall on goods and services annually.

Medical equipment constituted 29 percent of the UN’s purchases from Israel. That was followed by 17.6 percent on fuel and lubricants, and 17 percent on computing and communications equipment. Of services that the UN purchased from Israel, 31 percent were administrative. Spending on transportation and spending services stood at 18 percent.

Danon said that he was “proud” that the UN was buying so many Israeli products, adding that the Israeli mission to the UN is working to help grow the state’s procurement potential.
