In response to increased cyber warfare, the Israel Defense Forces has doubled the number of soldiers trained specifically for combatting cyber-attacks on vital Israeli computer infrastructure. During Operation Pillar of Defense in November “a record number of such attacks was recorded, which came from over 180 different countries, mostly against government and defense establishment websites.” Israel is not the only country to beef up efforts to improve its systems. U.S. officials have accused Iran of online attacks of American banking institutions, likely in retaliation for sanctions and online attacks by the U.S.
