A report on CNN’s Situation Room last night, seen in the video embedded below, illustrated the overwhelming support Israelis show for Operation Protective Edge.
The support is shown by publicly displayed signs and by food that is prepared by ordinary citizens and delivered to the troops. It is also shown in multiple opinion polls. CNN reporter Sarah Sidner observed that “two opinion polls done to measure Israel’s support for Operation Protective Edge reveal that up to 95 percent of Israel Jews are against a ceasefire and what they really want is Hamas dealt with once and for all.”
Sidner interviewed former Mossad director Danny Yatom, who assessed that defeating Hamas could take years and involve a large deployment of troops in Gaza. Nonetheless, Yatom, who initially opposed the ground operation, now supports it, telling Sidner, “Now I understand that I was wrong because only with this ground operation we could discover these tunnels.”
Sidner also interviewed Marcus Sheff, the executive director of The Israel Project’s Israel office, who observed, “I can’t remember a military operation which had so much support from the Israeli people.” The Israel Project publishes The Tower.
