Arab-Israeli Microbiologist Wins “MasterChef Israel”

Nof Atamna-Ismaeel, a 33-year-old Arab-Israeli mother of three with a PhD in microbiology, won the fourth season of the Israeli version of the TV cooking competition “MasterChef” on Sunday. Atamna-Ismaeel dreams of opening an Arab-Jewish cooking school, one that she will surely now be able to build.

The winning dish, which Atamna-Ismaeel named “Sultan’s Spring,” was made of stripped red mullet with almond cream and a fresh vegetable salad. “It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life,” she said after being declared the winner.

Last week’s semifinal telecast was watched by almost 40% of the Israeli TV audience, according to Haaretz.

Israel has been accused of covering up mistreatment of the Palestinians by promoting its record of LGBT equality (pinkwashing) and environmentalism (greenwashing). Now, with Atamna-Ismaeel’s success, will surely come the first accusation of Israel insidiously promoting its culinary reality shows–call it “dishwashing.”
