William Hague: Syria War Producing New Generation Of Hardened Jihadists

The Syrian war is producing a new generation of hardened jihadists who may pose a serious threat to Europe, according to comments made by British Foreign Secretary William Hague in a speech outlining the U.K.’s counter-terrorism strategy. Hague suggested that Syria has become the “number one destination” in the world for Islamist militants, and urged Russia and China to cease backing the Assad regime in order to bring the conflict to an end. Finland announced today that it had intercepted a Russian ship transporting tank parts to Syria in violation of an E.U. embargo. The announcement comes days after Russian officials emphasized that they would continue to supply weapons to the Assad regime.
