A video of Syrian rebels spraying bullets at captured government troops as they lay on the ground may document a war crime, according to human rights groups, and will complicate Western efforts to unite and assist forces fighting the ruling regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The video, which was taken yesterday and emerged this morning, comes days after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared that the Syrian opposition was being “hijacked” by Islamist extremists. The United States, she said, would no longer recognize the Syrian National Council as the head of the opposition but would instead search for new rebel leaders.
