Post-Arab Spring Middle East Coalescing Into New And Potentially Destabilizing Camps

The post-Arab Spring Middle East is coalescing into new and potentially destabilizing camps, according to analysts commenting on Hamas’s move out of the Syrian-Iranian orbit and into that of Egypt. Syrian state television lashed out at Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, a former ally of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, after Mashaal attended a conference in Turkey as Turkish officials escalated their criticisms of Assad. Meanwhile suspicions that the Iranian proxy Hezbollah is helping to prop up Assad were confirmed, as Lebanese sources and Syrian activists declared that senior Hezbollah commander and two other Hezbollah fighters were killed in an ambush near the Syrian town of Qusair.
