A recent Palestinian move to use the United Nations to bolster claims to statehood “threatens United States and Israeli interests” and “undermines all internationally accepted frameworks for peace,” according to a Heritage Foundation report authored by Brett D. Schaefer and James Phillips.

The report insists that “firm action is necessary” to block those moves, and outlines concrete steps the Obama administration can take to “enforce current law and take further steps to warn the Palestinians that their actions will have significant negative consequences.” Warnings about the damage caused by the Palestinian drive were echoed by the New York Daily News, which described it as “unwise, unwarranted, counterproductive and even dangerous.”
