The Palestinian Authority representative to Britain has declared that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is unrealistic and that the goal should be “one state” which subsumes the Jewish State. Manuel Hassassian also indicated that forces hostile to Israel would be able to leverage declining U.S. support for Jerusalem – which will occur according to him some time in the future as a result of global demographic trends – to undermine Israel’s ability to maintain viability. Hassassian’s statements will be read against what polling shows to be widespread Palestinian sentiment linking a negotiated two-state solution to the eventual destruction of Israel.
