The Israeli Security Agency recorded 112 terror attacks committed against Israelis in December, including six roadside bombs, three grenades, 98 firebombs, and two incidents of gunfire. The number is down significantly from the 637 attacks registered in November, and reflects relative quiet in the aftermath of Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense. For the first time since at least 2004, no rockets or missiles fired from the Gaza Strip landed in Israel in December. The security situation has done much to bolster analysis that Israel’s successes during the operation restored a measure of deterrence in southern Israel. Over the course of just over a week Israel severely degraded Hamas’s command and control infrastructure and wiped out around 95 percent of the Iran-backed group’s advanced arsenal.
