Israeli diplomats and politicians, including elected officials from the center-left Labor party that will lead the next Israeli opposition, are blasting the UN Human Rights Council for a series of recent diplomatic attacks on Israel and Israeli policy. Member of the Knesset Dr. Nachman Shai describes the body’s focus on Israel, which includes a unique “standing agenda item” about the Jewish state, as “represent[ing] the very depths to which an unrepresentative, undemocratic international body can sink.” Watchdog groups have registered outrage that U.N. human rights bodies – among which are ones with Sudan as vice-president – consistently and disproportionately criticize Israel.
