Iranian-American Manssor Arbabsiar pled guilty yesterday to attempting to murder the Saudi ambassador to the United States. The plot, which would have constituted a “significant terrorist attack in the United States” was, according to Arbabsiar “directed by high-ranking” Iranian officials. The United States has linked the plot to a larger Iranian campaign aimed at assassinating foreign diplomats in at least seven countries including Georgia, India, and Thailand. In 2009 then-Secretary of State tate Richard Armitage described the Iranian-directed terrorist group Hezbollah as the “A-Team of Terrorists,” and Iran has been directly linked to the July suicide bombing of Israeli tourists in Burgas, Bulgaria.
