Instability Triggered By Syrian Civil War Spills Into Israel Again

Instability triggered by the Syrian civil war – which is being fought as a three-way proxy war between Sunni states on one side, Iran and its proxies on another, and international Kurdish groups on a third – spilled into Israel again this weekend. Gunfire from the Syrian side of the Golan Heights struck an Israeli vehicle, and stray gunfire from clashes between rebels and forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad crossed the border. Large swaths of Syria’s border with Israel are now dominated by Salafist groups, increasing the potential for border incidents and conflict.
