Egypt President Excluded Peace Talk from UN Speech

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi deliberately omitted an endorsement of the Saudi-initiated Arab League peace plan, which provides for the recognition of Israel by the Arab world, according to an investigation by the JTA news agency. Morsi’s prepared remarks included that endorsement, as well as a reaffirmation of Egypt’s 1979 Camp David peace treaty with Israel. That both were excluded from Morsi’s delivered remarks will not calm the fears of analysts that the Muslim Brotherhood, to which Morsi is linked, is committed to undermining the peace treaty. The agreement has long been seen as a central pillar for regional stability in the Middle East.
