At least 50 people have been killed and more than 300 have been injured as unrest continues to sweep across Egypt. The situation disintegrated over the weekend after an Egyptian court handed down death sentences to 21 defendants linked to a violent February soccer riot. Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has imposed a state of emergency on parts of the country, prompting the Associated Press – in unusually blunt language – to emphasize that the Muslim Brotherhood-linked president was “using tactics of the ousted regime to get a grip on discontent over his Islamist policies.”
