Palestinian terrorist groups activated by the Bashar al-Assad regime are gearing up to attack Israel, according to reports and a statement made by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC). The terrorist group issued a call for “all Syrian citizens to volunteer in the formation of the resistance.” Western media outlets reported that the group would seek to attack Israel on the Golan Heights, which the Jewish state seized from Damascus during a defensive 1967 war. State-controlled Syrian media outlets provided a more complete version of the PFLP-GC’s statement:
In a statement issued Saturday, the Front stressed its support for the Syrian popular liberation forces in their battle to liberate the Golan, expressing its readiness to “carry out military operations against the Zionist occupation and settlers on the way towards liberating Palestine from river to sea.” The statement called for opening all Arab fronts, particularly the Jordanian border, for the Palestinian and Arab resistance forces in the same way the Golan front has been opened.
Observers expressed skepticism regarding the capability of Syrian proxies to conquer the Golan.
