Amid Deepening Iran-Hezbollah Coordination on Syria, Rebels Tell Hezbollah To Get Out

The Syrian National Coalition, one of the leading groups in the conglomerate of organizations fighting to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad regime, took to its Facebook page to tell Hezbollah to get out of the country:

The Syrian National Coalition — the main Western-backed opposition group — warned that Hezbollah involvement in Syria’s civil war could lead to greater risks in the area, and urged the Lebanese government to “adopt the necessary measures to stop the aggression of Hezbollah” and to control the border to “protect civilians in the area.” The statement, posted on the Coalition’s Facebook page, coincided with a surge in fighting around the contested town of Qusair in Syria’s Homs province near the frontier with Lebanon.

In January 2013 Iran declared that Tehran considers any attack against Syria an attack on itself.

Meanwhile Kuwait’s leading newspaper reported over the weekend that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah visited Iran two weeks ago and met with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Al-Rai reported the two Shiite leaders discussed their respective roles in Syria, where military and financial assistance from both Iran and Hezbollah is helping Assad limit rebel gains. The two also reportedly discussed strengthening Hezbollah-Iran ties and responses to Israeli plans to strike Iranian nuclear facilities. Nasrallah later met with the head of the Quds Force, the branch of the Revolutionary Guard responsible for terror operations abroad, the daily reported:

During the Tehran talks, the two discussed an “Iranian-Syrian defence system”, that would guard against rebel forces making further gains, according to a report in the Al-Rai newspaper. “Iran is willing to send hundreds of thousands of its men to Syria to defend Assad’s government and its resistant role if the west continues to support armed [groups],” the newspaper quoted an unnamed Iranian source as saying.
Reports that Hezbollah and Iran have already sent thousands of fighters to the frontline in Syria have increased in frequency in recent months.

The coordination meetings between Nasrallah and top Iranian officials are, according to a recent Al-Aarabiya report, routine:

A journalist expert in Iranian affairs told Al Arabiya that such meetings were routinely held between Iranian officials and the Lebanese militant group. “The meetings between Nasrallah and Iranian officials have never stopped and are nothing new,” said Najah Ali, adding: “They are secretly held and on a regular basis.”

Newly released footage shows Hezbollah fighters in Syria justifying their participation in the conflict:
