Israel is prepared to resume peace negotiations with the Palestinians right away, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his British counterpart David Cameron in London on Wednesday.
“I want to say here in 10 Downing Street, and reaffirm again, that I am ready to resume direct negotiations with the Palestinians with no conditions whatsoever to enter negotiations, and I’m willing to do so immediately,” Netanyahu said.
Last week, members of the Palestinian leadership rejected a similar call by Netanyahu to resume negotiations immediately and without preconditions.
Netanyahu also said that Israel could aid Britain in its fight against Islamist extremists. “The Middle East is disintegrating under the twin forces of militant Islam: the militant Sunnis led by ISIS and the militant Shiites led by Iran,” Netanyahu stated. “I believe that we can cooperate in practical ways to roll back the tide of militant Islam both in the Middle East and in Africa altogether.”
Netanyahu also called for increased technical cooperation with Britain, saying that if the countries “pull our resources together, we can offer a better future and great prosperity.”
Israel and the UK have a robust technical partnership through the Britain Israel Research and Academic Exchange Partnership (BIRAX). BIRAX is funding eight cutting edge joint research projects this year.
