A mortar shell fired from Gaza landed on a hothouse killing a farm worker from Thailand July 23. The man was rushed to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon by helicopter but he succumbed to his wounds and died within an hour.
Yair Farjoun, the head of the Ashkelon Regional Council, expressed his condolences to the family saying:
“We feel deep sadness by the death of the migrant worker… We send our condolences to the victim’s family and continue to give our backing to the IDF and the security forces.”
The man, whose name has not yet been made public, was the third civilian to die in July rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza. Twenty-nine Israeli soldiers. More than 2,000 rockets have been fired into Israel since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge. Over 420 of them have been intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.
Tens of thousands attended the funeral of Los Angeles native Max Steinberg on July 23. The soldier with the Israel Defense Forces was killed over the weekend in Gaza. He was the second American citizen wearing Israeli uniform to be killed this month.
