Nearly twice as many Israelis were injured by terror attacks in 2012 than in 2011, according to a report by the Israel Security Agency. Domestically, most of the fatalities and injuries were the result of attacks from the Gaza Strip in October and November of 2012. The Palestinian terror group Hamas launched a campaign of escalatory rocket and missile fire in October, which did not abate until Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense secured a near-total halt to the fire. Overseas the higher toll was partly a function of the bombing in Burgas, Bulgaria, which took the lives of 5 Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian and which is widely believed to have been orchestrated by the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah.
