The United States is sanctioning several Lebanon-based charities that fundraise for Hamas, including Al-Waqfiya and Al-Quds, which according to the Treasury Department “exist to support the families of Hamas fighters.” Hamas is a designated terror organization and has consistently targeted Israeli civilians with rocket and mortar fire. The organization violently seized control of the Gaza Strip from its rival Fatah organization in 2007, and relations between the two Palestinian groups have oscillated back and forth until all but collapsing recently. American lawmakers and courts have increasingly targeted the assets of Iranian backed-terror groups, with a U.S. judge earlier this month ordering Iran, Hezbollah, and other terror groups to pay $6 billion in compensation to the victims of the 9/11 terror attack.
