Debra Messing Supports Alyssa Milano’s Refusal to Speak at Women’s March

Actress and #MeToo activist Alyssa Milano’s refusal to speak at the Women’s March because of its leaders’ anti-Semitism earned the support of fellow actress Debra Messing, Fox News reported Sunday.

Last Thursday, the Will and Grace star tweeted a link to Milano’s interview with The Advocate, where she said that she would not speak at the next Women’s March because its leaders refused to denounce anti-Semitism. Along with the link, Messing’s wrote, “I stand with you @Alyssa_Milano.”

In the interview, Milano expressed her unhappiness that the leaders of the march, including Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory, failed to denounce Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan for his anti-Semitic remarks.

Milano told The Advocate, “Any time that there is any bigotry or anti-Semitism in that respect, it needs to be called out and addressed. I’m disappointed in the leadership of the Women’s March that they haven’t done it adequately.”

In addition to the two actresses, a think tank affiliated with Germany’s Social Democrat Party rescinded its award to Women’s March USA, “as its organizers have repeatedly attracted attention through antisemitic statements, the trivialization of antisemitism and the exclusion of Zionists and Jews” since the group was established in 2017.

In an op-ed published in June of last year, Julie Lenarz, a senior fellow at The Israel Project, wrote, “Linda Sarsour is not a feminist. She supports a culture that is forcing millions of women into religious slavery. She is a false apostle selling her regressive views to a blinded liberal audience.”
