Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu scrapped a plan to resettle African migrants in Europe, after Germany and Italy announced that they would not be accepting the migrants.
On Monday, Netanyahu announced that Israel had reached an agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to resettle thousands of migrants, mostly from Sudan and Eritrea, in Western nations including Germany, Italy, and Canada.
Later, Netanyahu scrapped the plan after German Chancellor Angela Merkel denied that Germany would accept any refugees. Italy’s foreign ministry also denied that there was any agreement to transfer the migrants there.
