Liraz Russo, 27, and Ben-El Tavori,26, known to Israeli music fans as Static and Ben-El, have signed a reported ten-year, $5 million deal with Capitol Records, The Times of Israel reported Wednesday. This deal was made possible by entertainment mogul, Haim Saban, who heard about the group from his nephew and heard about their potential for international success.
“I believe that the talents of Static and Ben-El will speak to music lovers around the world,” Saban said in a statement. “Together with their professional staff, we at Saban Capital Group are happy to support them in developing this next stage in their unique and successful career.”
The pair, who started out as YouTube artists, will join artists like Katy Perry, Beck, Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney, and Sam Smith at Capitol Records. The pair will work with Emily Wright, who has written songs for Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Ke$ha, and Miley Cyrus.
In Israel, the singers have only released Hebrew-language songs, all of which have become hits. Their songs Tudo Bom, Barbie and Silsulim, have all been viewed more than 40 million times on YouTube and they are featured regularly on Israeli radio.
The duo’s songs are marked by danceable beats and often incorporate other musical styles. Namaste, for example, was has elements of Indian and Jamaican music.
Earlier this year Static and Ben-El announced a series of shows in the United States and Mexico, a first for the duo. They will be appearing in New York on April 26, Florida April 29, Los Angeles May 6 and in Mexico on May 9.
The duo, along with their producer Yarden “Jordi” Peleg, will be releasing an English language album in the U.S. and in Latin America. The Jerusalem Post reported that their first international single is expected to be released in July.
