A 29 year-old father of four was stabbed to death outside the Jewish West Bank community of Ariel as he waited for a bus, The Times of Israel reported Monday.
A video of the attack shows a Palestinian exiting a cab then crossing a street to stab the victim. The victim, identified as Rabbi Itamar Ben Gal, then fled the scene with the attacker in pursuit.
According to the army, an IDF officer saw the attack and pursued the attacker in his car. Though he struck the assailant, the attacker escaped, though he left behind a knapsack. According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency the bag contained a change of clothes, an identification card and other personal items.
“We will bring him to justice, as we always do. I put my trust in the security forces who do the hardest work against these reprehensible attacks,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a Likud faction meeting.
Ben Gal was the second Israeli killed in a West Bank terror attack in recent week. Rabbi Raziel Shevach was shot and killed while driving in early January. Hamas later claimed that Shevach’s murderer was a member.
