U.S. Shoots Down Iranian-Made Drone in Syria That “Displayed Hostile Intent”

A United States F-15 shot down an Iranian-made drone in southeastern Syria as the craft approached American-backed forces, U.S. officials revealed on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by the U.S.-led coalition confirming the incident, the drone was carrying weapons and was shot down on Monday “after it displayed hostile intent and advanced on Coalition forces” that “were manning an established combat outpost to the northeast of At Tanf where they are training and advising partner ground forces in the fight against ISIS,” CNN reported.

The drone, identified as an Iranian Shahed 129, was believed to be in firing range of U.S. troops and was “assessed to be a threat,” according to a U.S. official.

The Iranian-made drone that was shot down by an American jet earlier this month was also believed to be a Shahed 129.

U.S. forces on Sunday shot down a Russian-made Syrian warplane after it targeted U.S.-backed ground forces fighting ISIS.
