WATCH: U.S., Israeli Naval Commandos Participate in Joint Exercises

American and Israeli naval commandos participated in joint exercises last week, the latest in an ongoing series of drills between two nation’s militaries.

United States Navy Seals, Israel’s Shayetet 13 Naval Commandos, Sa’ar 5 missile ships, Naval Special Warfare vessels, and other Israeli naval boats all participated in the exercises, The Times of Israel reported. The drills focused on intercepting and boarding enemy vessels at sea.

“The cooperation between the two navies is reflected in annual joint exercises, visits and the mutual transfer of operational knowledge,” said Israel’s head of Naval operations, Brig. Gen. Ido Ben Moshe. “During these joint exercises, professional relations are forged that benefit both sides on a strategic level.”

The joint naval exercises come as Israel is increasingly concerned about the possibility of the terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah preparing to attack Israel by sea.

Shayetet 13 teamed up last July with U.S. Marine units to participate in a counter-terror exercise.

Last month, the air forces of Israel and the U.S. participated in a multinational exercise that also included Italy, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates—a country with which Israel does not have formal diplomatic ties.

The U.S. participated in two exercises in Israel that focused on missile defense last year.
