Iran Tests Another Missile in Defiance of U.S. Warning

Iran test-fired another surface-to-air missile on Wednesday, in defiance of warnings and a new round of sanctions from the Trump administration last week, a U.S. official told Fox News.

The short-range Mersad missile was fired from a launchpad east of Tehran and impacted 35 miles away, the official added.

“Recent Iranian actions, including a provocative ballistic missile launch and an attack against a Saudi naval vessel conducted by Iran-supported Houthi militants, underscore what should have been clear to the international community all along about Iran’s destabilizing behavior across the Middle East,” National Security Advisor Michael Flynn said last week after an earlier launch. He further described Iran’s actions as “violations of international norms.”

U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley called the earlier test “unacceptable,” while her UK counterpart, Matthew Rycroft, warned that the test could have a “destabilizing” effect on the Middle East.

Last Friday, The United States placed sanctions on 13 individuals and 12 companies involved in procuring technology for Iran’s ballistic missile program and that have ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force.

“Iran’s continued support for terrorism and development of its missile program poses a threat to the region, to our partners worldwide and to the United States,” John E. Smith, the acting sanctions chief at the U.S. Treasury Department, said at the time. “We will continue to actively apply all available tools, including financial sanctions, to address this behavior.”

The Trump White House is considering labeling Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the military organization that is in charge of Iran’s missile program, a terrorist organization.
