Tel Aviv University has been ranked as one of the top schools for producing billion-dollar startups in the world, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported Tuesday.
A recent global survey conducted by the British software firm Sage found that Tel Aviv University had seven alumni who founded startups valued at $1 billion or more, ahead of both Cornell and the University of Southern California. Stanford topped the list with 51 such alumni, followed by Harvard with 37.
The billion-dollar startups founded by Tel Aviv University alumni include Forescout, a cybersecurity firm, and ironSource, which builds software for app developers.
According to new figures released by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on Tuesday, Israel devoted more of its GDP to research and development than any other country in 2015. The Jewish state reclaimed the top spot from South Korea after two years in second place.
