The deputy chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces blamed Israel for the disasters in Mecca this month, in which more than 100 people died when a construction crane collapsed and more than 700 died in a stampede.

Brig. Gen. Massoud Jazzayeri said that tragedies, in which more than 150 Iranians pilgrims died, may have been caused by Israel, in cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

“Given the usurper Zionist regime’s infiltration and influence on the al-Saud, there is a growing possibility that the crane crash incident at the Grand Mosque (in the holy city of Mecca) and the death of thousands of people in Mina were the result of deliberate crime,” Jazzayeri told the semi-official Fars News Agency. He went on to say that “fact-finding groups from all Muslim states have the responsibility to decrypt this al-Saud crime.”

Jazzayeri is no stranger to conspiracy theories. He has previously said that the Islamic State was formed as part of an American plot to “defame Islam” and “create a new Middle East…in line with the illegitimate interests of the Zionist regime.” After the Klos-C, an ship filled with Iranian rockets and arms bound for Gaza, was intercepted by the Israeli Navy last year, Jazzayeri denied Iranian involvement, claiming that “the Americans and the Zionists probably ordered (from) Hollywood the production of a movie with the scenario of a cargo ship carrying Iranian weapons to Gaza in Palestine.”
