Three rockets fired from Gaza landed in Israel today, causing no injuries. The rockets came on the fourth day of a five-day security drill to make sure Israeli security systems work in case of rocket attacks from Hezbollah or Hamas.
The Times of Israel reported:
The Israel Defense Forces said two rockets were fired from the Palestinian enclave and sirens were heard in Netivot and Ashkelon. Police later said three projectiles struck Israel.
The rockets landed in open areas in the Sdot Negev region bordering the northern Gaza Strip, according to media reports. …Alarms sounded just before 11 p.m. in the Sdot Negev and Hof Ashkelon regions bordering the northern Gaza Strip, as well as the towns of Netivot and Ashkelon.
As yet, no group has claimed credit for the rocket fire, but Israel holds Hamas responsible for any attacks since the terror organization is the governing authority in Gaza.
Last week, Israel struck several terror sites in Gaza following the firing of a Grad rocket into southern Israel.
According to Ynet, residents of Israel’s southern communities are concerned by the renewed rocket fire.
Sdot Negev Regional Council head Tamir Idan, said he was in contact with the IDF, “in order to see whether we should prepare for an escalation, or this was an isolated incident.”
“Each escalation must be met with force,” Idan added. “I hope this time the IDF strikes in a way the other side understands this front cannot be opened. The residents hope for vacation time this summer, and not like last year.”
The security exercise, Turning Point 15, started Sunday and aims to test Israel’s emergency systems and evacuation plans in case of attack. On Tuesday, sirens sounded across Israel as a test, though due to last summer’s experience during Operation Protective Edge, the sirens were not tested in Israel’s south.
