The Times of Israel reported Monday that the sister of Hamas spokesman Moussa Abu Marzouk is being treated at an Israeli hospital.
The hospitalization of the sister of Abu Marzouk is the latest case of a relative of a member of the terror group being treated in Israel despite a toxic relationship with the Jewish state.
There are few details known about the case, including which hospital is treating the woman.
The 60-year-old woman, who was not named in the report or by medical officials, suffers from advanced-stage cancer. Her condition is critical, and she remains hospitalized in Israel, according to the report.
Israel estimates that one hundred Gazans a day enter Israel for medical care.
Earlier this year, Gaza-based Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s mother-in-law was treated in an Israeli hospital. A few months later Haniyeh’s daughter was also treated in an Israeli hospital. A granddaughter of the Hamas leader was treated in Israel, but her condition was already critical and she died shortly afterwards.
In response to news that Haniyeh’s daughter was being treated in Israel, Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, accused Hamas’ leadership of hypocrisy, charging that “during Operation Protective Edge … the group’s leaders prevented injured Gazans from reaching the field hospital set up by Israel on the Gaza border.”
