Two Israeli soldiers were injured today by an explosion near the Lebanese border.
Ha’aretz reports that “Two Israel Defense Forces soldiers were wounded on Tuesday after a bomb exploded near their position on Mount Dov, near the Lebanon border. The two were treated on the spot.”
After local and international media reported that the IDF fired artillery shells into south Lebanon, where it is believed the perpetrators of the attack originated from, the military confirmed the report.
On Sunday, IDF troops fired on a group of men attempting to infiltrate the Israeli border via Lebanon. According to The Jerusalem Post:
In the incident in question, soldiers opened fire on men they identified crossing the border, hitting one of them. The men then fled back into Lebanese territory. …
Channel 10 quoted defense sources as saying they believe that the cell intended to carry out a terror attack on Israeli territory.
While the Post reports that there are no fears of an imminent war with Lebanon, an Israeli defense official expressed concern that the Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah “has developed new offensive cross-border capabilities.”
