Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) just published a report of a disturbing movie that was uploaded to the official Fatah Facebook page last week.
PMW reports that the movie boasts that the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades was formed at the behest of Yasser Arafat in 2000 and still has its “finger on the trigger.”
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades were established in 2000 in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, by order of the late Martyr (Shahid) Yasser Arafat, as Fatah’s military wing. The triumphant brigades began their military operations (i.e., terror attacks) during the second Intifada, the Al-Aqsa Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005). …
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades still have a finger on the trigger. They have revolutionists and Martyrdom-seekers who faithfully carry out the covenant Allah made with them, [revolutionists and Martyrdom-seekers] who are the instruments for igniting the region and for continuing to lead the military activity against Israel until the Palestinian people establishes an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades in Palestine, the Nidal Al-Amoudi division.”
Fatah is often characterized as being moderate and having given up terror. This movie suggests that Fatah’s affiliate, Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, much like its founder, Marwan Barghouti, is still committed to terror as a means of achieving its goals.
Associate editor Benjamin Kerstein observed in Hammered: The Palestinian Peace Paradox, published in the March 2014 issue of The Tower Magazine, that even if Israel made peace with Fatah, “such an agreement would still leave Israeli security dependent on the good will of Fatah, the party that refused peace in 2000 and then embarked on the terrorist war known as the second intifada, which killed hundreds of Israelis and did substantial damage to Israel’s economy. ”
