A Sri Lankan national arrested in India is suspected of planning terror attacks against the Israeli consulate in Bangalore (Bengaluru) and the American consulate in Chennai. Both cities are in southern India. The suspect is believed to be an agent of Pakistan’s intelligence service, ISI.
Based on Indian media, Ynet reports:
Indian official sources said that proof of the planned attacks was given during the interrogation of Sakir Hussain, a Sri Lankan national who was arrested on April 29 in Southeast Asia when investigators informed an Indian security agency of his possible connection to planned attacks in India. …
Hussain was reportedly arrested a short while after arriving in Chennai and taken away for interrogation during which he surrendered the information about the attacks saying that the ISI had planned on sending two operatives from Maldives to India, presumably to carry out the attacks, and Hussain had taken care of providing fake travel documents and safe-houses.
The suspect, Amir Zubair, is a counselor in the Pakistani diplomatic mission based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Indian investigators found photographs of the consulates and their surroundings, apparently taken by Hussain, that were sent electronically to ISI elements in Pakistan as well as the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission.
A Pakistani official denied the charges, “calling the accusations a ‘malicious media campaign.'”
